How to use the SVG to PNG Converter
- Select Choose files, or drop your .svg files on the page.
- Under Output size, pick 1x, 2x, 4x or Custom. With Custom, type a Width in px.
- Leave Background color off for a transparent PNG, or switch it on and choose a color.
- Select Download for one PNG, or Download all (ZIP) for several.
Vector and pixel images are different things
An SVG doesn't store pixels. It stores instructions: draw a circle here, a curve there, fill this shape with that color. Because the picture is a recipe, it can be drawn at 50 px or 5,000 px wide and the edges stay sharp.
A PNG is the opposite. It is a fixed grid of pixels, and its size is decided when the file is made. Enlarge it later and the edges go soft.
That is why SVG is common for logos and icons on websites, and why so many other places refuse it. Word processors, slide programs, email signatures, marketplaces and many social networks want a PNG or JPG. Converting means choosing, once, how large the grid should be.
The choice matters more than anything else on this page. A PNG made too small looks blurry wherever it is stretched, and there is no way to sharpen it afterward. Making it larger than you need costs nothing in quality, only file size. So go a step above what you think you need.
Pick the output size: 1x, 2x, 4x or custom
Every SVG has its own natural size. The Output size card draws it at a multiple of that size, and shows the result in pixels, for example "2x = 800 x 400 px", once a file is added.
- 1x matches the SVG's own size. It suits small icons that will sit on a page at that size.
- 2x is the starting choice. It stays sharp on high-density phone and laptop screens, which show two or more physical pixels for every one in the layout.
- 4x is for large printouts, banners and anything a viewer may zoom into.
- Custom lets you type a width in px, and the height follows the SVG's proportions. Use it when a form or template asks for an exact width.
The widest PNG this page makes is 4,096 px, and the card tells you when a size is capped. Add several SVGs and each is drawn at the same multiple of its own size.
If you need a particular width and height that doesn't match the SVG's shape, convert it first and then resize the PNG to fit.
Transparent background, or a solid one
PNG can hold transparency, so by default the empty parts of your SVG stay empty. Place the PNG on a slide, a colored page or a photo and the background shows through. Most logos are used this way.
Some places fill clear areas with black or reject them. When a platform shows your logo on a black square, turn on Background color and choose a color. It starts on white. Every transparent area gets that color, and the PNG is then opaque.
Choosing the right fill is easier if you know where the image will land. A dark logo needs a light background, and a white logo on a transparent PNG will disappear on a white page. Use Compare to preview it.
Where converted SVGs get used
- Logos for documents and slides, where a 2x PNG looks crisp when projected.
- Profile pictures and posts for social networks. If you plan to share on Instagram, the Instagram image size guide lists the shapes it displays.
- Product images and email signatures that must be a pixel format.
Two caveats. An SVG that depends on a font installed on its designer's computer can fall back to a different font when drawn in a browser, so convert text to outlines in your design app first. And an SVG that links to outside pictures may show them blank, because linked files aren't loaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert SVG to PNG?
Add your SVG to the page, choose an Output size such as 2x, and select Download when the row finishes. The PNG is drawn at the size you picked and keeps a transparent background unless you turn on Background color. You can convert many SVGs at once and save them as a ZIP.
What size should my PNG be?
Use 2x for most screen uses, because it stays sharp on high-resolution displays. Choose 4x for print or large banners, and 1x for small icons. If a template names an exact width, pick Custom and type it. A PNG cannot be sharpened later, so err toward larger.
Will my PNG have a transparent background?
Yes, unless you ask otherwise. Transparent parts of the SVG stay transparent in the PNG. If you want a solid color behind the artwork, switch on Background color and pick one. Remember that a white logo on a transparent PNG is invisible on a white page.
Why does my PNG look blurry?
It was probably made at a size smaller than where it is displayed, so it is being stretched. PNG is a grid of pixels, unlike SVG. Convert again at 2x or 4x, or use Custom with a larger width. The maximum is 4,096 px wide.
Can I turn a PNG back into an SVG?
Not with this page. Converting an SVG to PNG replaces the drawing instructions with pixels, and a PNG cannot be turned back into clean shapes just by saving it differently. Keep your original SVG file, and use the PNG only where a pixel image is required.
Are my SVG files uploaded?
No. The SVG is drawn into a PNG inside your browser and is never uploaded, so unreleased logos and brand files stay on your device. There is no signup, no watermark on the PNG, and closing the page clears the files from it.
