How to use the Crop Image

  1. Add a photo with Choose files, or drag it onto the page. The crop editor opens right on top of the image.
  2. Under Crop shape and ratio, pick Rectangle, Circle or Rounded square, then an aspect ratio or a social size.
  3. Drag the crop area to move it and drag a corner to resize it, or type exact X, Y, Width and Height values in pixels.
  4. Select Download. For several images, the crop applies to each of them, and Download all (ZIP) saves them together.

Frequently asked questions

How do I crop a picture into a circle?

Add your photo, set Shape to Circle, and drag the round crop area over the part you want. Download the result. It is saved as a square PNG with transparent corners, which sites then show as a circle if they round pictures, and which looks round on any plain background.

Why is my circle cropped photo still square?

Image files are always rectangles, so a circle crop is a square picture whose corners are transparent. On a white page it looks round. If the corners show a color, you saved a JPG, which cannot be transparent. Choose PNG, or set the background to match the page.

How do I crop an image to a specific aspect ratio?

Pick a ratio button such as 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9, and the crop area locks to that shape. Drag it to the part of the photo you want to keep. If you need a ratio that is not listed, choose Free and type the Width and Height values in pixels.

Does cropping reduce image quality?

Cropping keeps the pixels inside the box unchanged, but saving as JPG or WebP re-compresses the file. To avoid any new loss, save as PNG. A cropped picture also has fewer pixels than the original, so it will look softer if you later enlarge it to its old size.

Can I crop several photos the same way?

Yes. Add all of the photos, choose a shape and ratio once, and each photo gets the largest centered crop of that shape. If one photo needs a different area, open its settings and drag the crop for that photo only. Download all (ZIP) saves the whole set.

Is my photo uploaded when I crop it?

No. The crop editor runs in your browser and your photo is never uploaded. That makes it a comfortable place to crop a private picture, such as a family photo or an ID. Nothing is stored after you close the tab, and there is no account to create.
